Basic Hat Pattern Version 35 "Slightly Slouchy Hat"

Worsted weight acrylic yarn

Notes:  Rounds 19-23, remember to crochet loosely! These stitches tighten up and then your hat will not go on your head!

Version 35
Color A Gold
Color B Red
Color C Purple

With color A ch 4, sl st in first ch made.

Round 1. Ch 1, hdc in ring 12 times. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (12 st)

Round 2. Ch 1, dc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in same sp as ch 1.
(dc in next sp, and fpdc in same sp.) in each remaining sp.  Sl st in first dc made.  (24 st)

Round 3.  Ch 2, 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, fpdc in next sp. (2 dc in next sp, fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in first dc made. (36 st) 

Round 4. Ch 2, 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, 1 dc in next sp, fpdc in next sp.  (2 dc in next sp, 1 dc in next sp, 1 fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in top of first dc made. (48 st)

Round 5. Ch 2, 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, 1 dc in next 2 sp, 1 fpdc in next sp. (2 dc in next sp, 1 dc in next 2 sp, 1 fpdc in next sp.) 11 times Sl st in top of first dc made.  (60 st)

Round 6. Ch 2, 1 dc in same sp as ch 2, 1 dc in next 3 sp, fpdc in next sp.( 1 dc in next 4 sp, 1 fpdc in next sp.) 11 times.  Sl st in top of first dc made. (60 st)

Rounds 7-13. Repeat Round 6.

Round 14. Repeat Round 6. Change to color C.

Rounds 15-16. Repeat Round 6.

Round 17.  Ch 1, sc in same sp as ch 1, sc around. Sl st in first sc made.

Round 18. Repeat Round 17. 

Round 19. Ch 1, turn. Sl st in ch 1 sp. 1 hdc in next sp. (sl st in next sp, hdc in next sp) Repeat in remaining sp. WARNING! (Crochet loosely or your hat will not fit! )

Rounds 20-23. Repeat Round 19.

Round 24. Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st as ch 1.  Sc in remaining sp.

Rounds 25-26. Repeat Round 24. 

Fasten off.

Notes: This colorful hat is great for children who have lost their hair due to a serious illness. Any combination of stripes or even a solid bright color would look awesome!  This hat can be made into a slouchy hat by adding more rows of Round 6. To save time carry your color changes of yarn behind your stitches and crochet over them.

Color A Purple
Color B Orange
Color C Blue
Color D Pink
Color E Aqua

Starting with color A,

Ch 4, sl st in first ch made.

Round 1. Ch 2, dc in ring 12 times.  Change to color B in last dc made. Sl st in top of first dc made. (12 dc)

Round 2.  Ch 2, 2 dc in same sp as ch 2. 2 dc in each remaining 11 sp. Change to color C in last dc made.  Sl st in top of first dc made. (24 dc)

Round 3. Ch 2, 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, 1 dc in next sp, (2 dc in next sp, 1 dc in next sp) 11 times. Change to color D in last dc made. Sl st in top of first dc made. (36 dc)

Round 4. Ch 2, 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, 1 dc in next 2 sp, (2 dc in next sp, 1 dc in next 2 sp) 11 times. Change to color E in last dc made. Sl st in top of first dc made. (48 dc)

Round 5. Ch 2, 2 dc in same sp as ch 2, 1 dc in next 3 sp, (2 dc in next sp, 1 dc in next 3 sp) 11 times. Change to color A in last dc made.  Sl st in top of 1st dc. (60 dc)

Round 6. Ch 2, 1 dc in same sp as ch 2, 1 dc in remaining 59 sp. Change to color B. Sl st in top of first dc made. (60 dc)

Round 7.  Repeat Round 6. Change to color C in last dc made.

 Round 8. Repeat Round 6. Change to color D in last dc made.

Round 9. Repeat Round 6. Change to color E in last dc made.

Round 10. . Repeat Round 6. Change to color A in last dc made.

Round 11. Repeat Round 6. Change to color B in last dc made.

Round 12. Repeat Round 6. Change to color C in last dc made.

Round 13. Repeat Round 6. Change to color D in last dc made.

Round 14. Repeat Round 6. Change to color E in last dc made.
