Basic Hat Pattern "Diamonds of Praise" © Version 90-E "Quickie Newborn with Shell Edging"

This is the same pattern as Version 90-C. I added a shell edging 
for a dainty, cute look. 

“ATSYNTK”
(all the stuff you need to know)

Yarn:  less than an ounce of worsted weight 

Supplies: Size H hook, yarn needle, 

Skill Level: Easy

Stitches Used: hdc, sl st

Notes: A quick and super easy pattern when you want to create hats for charity. I used Red Heart Super Saver Pink.

Gauge: Measuring across, rounds 1-4 it should equal 3”. 

Hat Size: The hat has a lot of stretch to it and will fit a 10" to 11" size newborn head.

Pattern:
Ch 4, sl st in first ch made.

Round 1. Ch 1, hdc in ring 10 times. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (10 hdc)

Round 2. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1. 2 hdc in each remaining 10 sp. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (20 hdc)

Round 3. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 2 sp, (2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next 2 sp) 5 times. 2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next sp. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (27 hdc)

Round 4. Ch 1, 1 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in remaining 26 sp. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (27 hdc)

Round 5. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 3 sp, (2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next 3 sp) 5 times. 2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next 2 sp. Sl st in top of first hdc. (34 hdc)

Round 6. Ch 1, 1 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in remaining 33 sp. Sl st in top of first hdc. (34 hdc)

Rounds 7-9. Repeat Round 6. 

Round 10. Ch 1, 5 hdc in same sp as ch 1, skip 1 sp, sl st in next sp, (skip 1 sp, 5 hdc in next sp, skip 1 sp, sl st in next sp) 8 times. ( Do not join in first hdc.) 

Fasten off.

Her head is 9" but the hat fits a 10" to 11" newborn head.

Yarn:  3 ounces worsted weight, not including yarn for pom-pom. It takes less than half an ounce to make a small pom-pom. I used Impeccable and the color is Cherry.

Supplies: Size I hook, yarn needle, pom-pom maker

Skill Level: Easy

Stitches Used: hdc, fpdc

Notes: Push up on the sides of the ridges with your fingers to give an even more raised look. Hat is unisex. 

Gauge: Sorry! Need to make it again to give you the gauge, although it is not critical in this pattern. 

Hat Size: medium

Pattern

Ch 4, sl st in first ch made.

Round 1. Ch 1, hdc in ring 12 times. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (12 hdc)

Round 2. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1. 2 hdc in each remaining 11 sp. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (24 hdc)

Round 3. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1, fpdc in next sp, (2 hdc in next sp, fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (24 hdc, 12 fpdc)

Round 4. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next sp, fpdc in next sp,  (2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next sp, fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in top of first hdc made. (36 hdc, 12 fpdc)

Round 5. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 2 sp, fpdc in next sp,  (2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next 2 sp, fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in top of first hdc. (48 hdc, 12 fpdc)

Round 6. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 3 sp, fpdc in next sp,  (2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next 3 sp, fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in top of first hdc. (60 hdc, 12 fpdc)

Round 7. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 4 sp, fpdc in next sp,  (2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next 4 sp, fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in top of first hdc. (72 hdc, 12 fpdc)

Round 8. Ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 5 sp, fpdc in next sp,  (2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next 5 sp, fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in top of first hdc. (84 hdc, 12 fpdc)

Round 9. Ch 1, hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 6 sp, fpdc in next sp, (hdc in next 7 sp, fpdc in next sp) 11 times. Sl st in top of first hdc. (84 hdc, 12 fpdc)

Rounds 10-14. Repeat Round 9.

Round 15. Ch 1, hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in remaining sp. (108 hdc)

Round 16. Ch 1, hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 4 sp, hdc decrease in next 2 sp, (hdc in next 5 sp, hdc decrease in next 2 sp) 12 times. Hdc in remaining 5 sp. (83 hdc)

Round 17. Repeat Round 15.

Round 18. Ch 1, hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 3 sp, hdc decrease in next 2 sp, (hdc in next 4 sp, hdc decrease in next 2 sp) 12 times. Hdc in remaining 5 sp. (70 hdc)

Round 19. Repeat Round 15.

Round 20. Ch 1, hdc in same sp as ch 1, hdc in next 2 sp, hdc decrease in next 2 sp, (hdc in next 3 sp, hdc decrease in next 2 sp) 13 times. (56 hdc)

Round 21. Ch 1, sc in same sp as ch 1, sc in remaining sp. 

Rounds 22-24. Repeat Round 21.
Fasten off.

Make pom-pom and attach to top of hat.
