Hat Pattern
Version
100-A
“Layered”
Yarn:
approximately 2 ounces of each color, worsted weight
Supplies:
Size
H hook, Size J hook, 1 button, size 1 3/8”, yarn needle
Skill
Level: Easy, need to know how to attach a button.
Stitches
Used: ch, sl st, dc,
Notes:
You
need a worsted yarn that has some thickness to it such as Vanna’s Choice yarn
or Red Heart’s With Love yarn. A worsted weight does work with this pattern. This
hat however is made from leftovers of Red Heart Super Saver Worsted Yarn.
Make sure the holes in the button you choose are
large enough for the yarn needle to go through it.
Gauge:
not
important as hat is large and oversized.

Sew button to top center of hat.
To
create layers in your hat:
Step
1. Place
hat on head with the yarn loops centered on each side of head. (Helpful hint,
center the loops above your ears!)
Step
2. Starting
at the base above your forehead pull and scrunch the hat down and create as
many layers as desired. You can slide them to the left or right for an off
kilter look. The layers can be tilted to the back if desired. Have fun!
Step
3.
Hold layers in place with one hand and with other hand bring yarn loop up and
slip over the button. Repeat with other side. If your loops are too loose, tie
a knot in base of loop to tighten it.
Play
with your layers to create lots of fun unique looks! You could even stuff your
hat with toilet paper, small wash cloths, socks, preferably clean ones, to
create a unusual look!
